Stabilization – Phase 1

The other day, I read a post on Facebook that said someone needed more stability in their life. Well, that got me to thinking. What does “stability in life” mean? Merriam Webster Dictionary, online, stated that stable means, “firmly established, not changing or fluctuating, and steady in purpose. How does one learn how to be stable in life? Life is constantly full of ups and downs. One minute everything is going well, next minute a trial comes along and knocks us off our feet. How do we ever learn to balance and learn how to endure those uneven moments of life?

Most of you know, I am studying to become a certified personal fitness trainer through NASM. NASM teaches the 3 levels of fitness which are:

Stabilization, Strength and Power

In those three levels there are five phases.:

Stabilization Endurance, Strength Endurance, Hypertrophy, Maximum Strength and Power.

Over and over again through the past six months, I have it had it drilled into my head that Stabilization Endurance is probably the most important phase. Many people go back and repeat that phase quite often. Why? Because it is the foundation from which all exercises and human body movements come from. It is the base, on which, Strength and Power are built. It is not the easiest level. In fact, sometimes, it can be quite hard, since you are training your mind and body to coordinate together and if you have learned bad habits in your posture and body movements, those habits can be hard to conquer.

The best way to teach Stabilization is to put someone on an uneven surface. A stabilization ball, a wobble board or even standing on one leg. Standing on one leg while trying to bend over with a dumbbell in both hands is not easy. Jumping onto a box and immediately going into a one legged stand, is not easy. The nice thing is, the more it is practiced, the easier it becomes and the longer we can endure. Pretty soon, it is time to move on to the next Phase of Strength Endurance.

That’s how life is! Life is a series of events that leave us on an uneven surface, which throws us off balance. Trials and tribulations are thrown at us over and over again in life. Sometimes, we get tired of trying to stand on one leg so we give up and don’t try anymore. We give up too soon. We forget that if we just keep trying, the stronger we will become. The more we can endure.

So when you say you need more Stability in your life, don’t expect life to be without it’s ups and downs, those ups and downs are what builds stability. Those ups and downs teach you to stand and endure and to keep holding on. Fight hard against that feeling of wanting to fall flat on your face, because it’s getting hard to balance on that wobbly board called life.  Don’t give up! Strength is only a phase away.

Romans 5:3-5  Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, (that’s the stabilization leveland endurance produces character, (that’s the strength level) and character produces hope, (that’s the power level and hope does not put us to shame,  because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us (that’s our reward)
