Welcome August

Just like that August is upon us. Kids are gearing up to go back to school. Teachers are getting the classrooms prepared. There is a feeling of the anticipation of fall in the air, the Halloween decorations will soon be making its arrival, the anticipated arrival of all things pumpkin spice, and one can hear the sudden gasp of air at the realization that the Christmas season will soon be upon us. The sweaters and hoodies will come out of the closet. The nights will start getting shorter. The fall rains will arrive and begin to cool off the hot summer air. I love this time of year – when August arrives.

So much to do between now and the beginning of 2023. We held at our breaths at the beginning of the year wondering if this year was going to be any better. In some ways it has and in some ways it hasn’t. I think the arrival of August – at least in me – begins to restore a hope renewed. We are more than halfway through the year. We have the promise of a season of gratefulness to arrive – Thanksgiving and a season of blessed hope – the birth of Christ – Christmas to anticipate. Then just like that its time to begin again with a New Year, to revisit goals and establish new you solutions.

Yep. I love August. The colors will be changing from the bright reds, yellows, blues, greens, of beach balls, blue skies, yellow suns, green grass, and flowers in every bright colors, to the colors of fall, rusts, oranges, browns, darker shades of yellow, rich purples, blue gray and denim color blues, darker greens and darker reds. The colors of pumpkins, sunflowers, mums and rusty old trucks.

The harvesting of the spring and summer gardens will start to commence. I am already waiting an order for a box of peaches from the North Slope here in Colorado. I really want to try to can peaches and make jam this year. The zucchini’s, tomatoes, sweet corn, peppers, greenbeans and more are ready to be canned and stored up for the winter months. August is the summers last hurrah before the fall and winter beset us.

August also has days like National Watermelon Day – (August 3), National Smile Week (August 5th – 11th) – a good time to make cards and send them to people, Friendship Day on the first Sunday in August (another good reason to make cards), National Sloth Day – (August 10th) and National Relaxation Day on August 15th. What a month!

August is the magical transitioning month between summer and fall. Sylvia Plath wrote it best, “August rain: the best of the summer gone, and the new fall not yet born. The odd uneven time.” This transition of summer and fall also becomes a good time, for me, to revisit my goals and plans and to make necessary changes, throw out what’s working, make new goals, change a method, or try a different approach.

A number one goal of mine is to become a world famous social media influencer, through blogging and making crafty You Tube videos. My approach this year is:

August – Blogust – 31 Days of Blogs – Just Write

September – Scraptember – 30 Days of Scrapbook layouts – I have so many grandkid photos to get into albums

October – Vlogtober – 31 Days of Videos – Cardmaking

November – 30 Days of Gratefulness

December – 31 Days of Daily Christmas Vlogs or Blogs.

Will I make every single day of blogging or blogging in a month? I am gonna try. I have however just found out that I am now diabetic. I have gastro intestinal appointments to keep. I have been battling some major migraines and other health issues. On a good note – I have started working with my fitness trainer again – twice a week – to help me lose weight again, get my glucose and A1c’s back to normal levels, eat gluten and dairy free again and restore my health. Transitioning back to healthier habits is another goal I am making using a different approach.

I have also moved Scrap4Less to the Pavilion Building at the Flea Market and my plan is to be open to the public this first weekend in August, Saturday and Sunday – from 8 – 2. After 2 it starts getting to hot or it starts to cloud over with a promising rain storm. Anyways, I hope to see you there.

Join me in welcoming August. What are your plans, goals, new approaches for the rest of the year? What do you like about August?

I didn’t know your birthday was in August. Oh and teachers don’t rest – one of my teacher friends is already back to work today. School in FT Ft Carso is starting August 9th. Way to early in my opinion. And I agree about rest – but with gas prices there is no rest for the weary – we totally have to rely on Gods strength
