Write the Vision

I chose Vision to be my One Word of the Year, mostly, because of the detached retina and the problems I am having with my physical vision.

In the past few days though, I realize that there is a lot more to this word than just seeing with your eyes, or because sight is one of the five senses. Vision can also be a foresight, a dream, maybe even something prophetic.

I was reading verses about vision this morning from the Bible and Habbakkuk 2:2-3 really jumped out at me…

Verse 2 – And the Lord answered me, “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets (or on a blog post), so he may run who reads it. Verse 3 – For still the vision awaits its appointed time, it hastens to the end – it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.

Write the vision? Like in a blog post? Then after the events that transpired yesterday, my sister reminded me of an article I wrote awhile ago – about a dream I had. (And no it wasn’t a dream of Fwee-dom). She thought I should post it and I told her no, it didn’t feel right. But then yesterday…. and now, it kinda, just sorta, feels like maybe I should post it. So here goes:

I wrote this on November 9th, 2000

I had a dream. I did have a dream and in that dream, I saw two men. Each one had very opposing viewpoints on how a nation should be run. Both men wanted to be in the office of the President of this very great nation. Both men wanted to follow in the footsteps of the men who had filled that office since the beginning of the nation.

However, this great nation was divided with hurt and anger. Half of the nations people wanted one man to lead, who promised to bring more power to the government. The other half wanted the second man to lead, who promised more power to the people. When it came time to choose which man should take the office, it was basically a tie. The nation became even more divided amongst themselves.

Then in my dream, I saw the two men agreeing to lay down their pride of life, their petty differences, and their opposing views and lead this great nation together. Together they would watch over the affairs of the nation, helping the citizens achieve life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Together they would stand solidly on moral ground and stand firm in the belief that only as this nation remembers from whence it originated will it be united and strong.

“Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle. Purity of morals is the only sure foundation of public happiness in any country. The governments…can never be in danger of degenerating…so long as there shall remain any virtue in the body of the people. True religion affords to government its surest support. Religion and morality are the essential pillars of civil society.” (George Washington)

As the people began to follow the example of leadership and morality of these two men and started to lay down their pride and petty differences. As compassion began to grow again, crime rates dropped, businesses prospered, abortions were not needed, violence was nil, teachers educated, children thrived. Alcoholism and drug abuse was no longer an issue. This great nation was not ruled by pride or prejudice but by a genuine commitment to love your neighbor as yourself, bearing one another’s burdens and doing unto others as one would want to be treated likewise.

As I awakened, I realized that this pleasant dream was but a nightmare. How could it ever come true? I saw God in the heaven shaking his head with sadness, as the nation continued to do exactly as before and remain in its divided state.

Then He spoke, “O America, America. How often I wanted to gather your children together as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you are not willing. (Matthew 23:37)

This nation will go on as before, no matter who is in office – the two parties will not change because every man wants to do what is right in his own eyes. Seriously, if only we would return to God and the ideals of the founding fathers of this nation would change ever occur and this nation would be what it was intended for….

One Nation Under God, Indivisble, With Liberty and Justice for All.

Thanks for reading…

Positively, Debbie

Debbie I so agree if everyone would just come back to God!

I also had something interesting happen just after I chose my word for the year. I chose NEW for my word this year, because of so many things we have the chance of having new beginnings and fresh starts with. Everyday is a fresh start and a new beginning in and of itself, plus God continually makes all things New.

That night before bed when I started reading my devotional it was talking about New Possibilities which really hit me because not only had I just chosen the word New that morning, but my word for 2020 had been Possibilities. The rest of the passages really spoke to me and I am believing God is going to be revealing much more to me shortly. Some of which I have already started seeing. 2021 is going to bring me many New Possibilities!
