Spooky Season – Fear Not

Last night we started our spooky season movie marathon. We chose the movie Scream. I don’t remember every watching this movie. Im pretty sure I did and I’m fairly certain it was eons ago. I actually liked it last night. It wasn’t scary at all. I found the movie to be very suspenseful and somewhat cheesy with the acting – like most movies from the 80’s and 90’s.

I dont know what we will watch tonight. Maybe, Annabelle? I don’t know yet. I do know Hocus Pocus and The Nightmare Before Christmas is on the list.

Do you choose to watch spooky, scary or Halloween movies in October? Do you stay away from all things Halloween. I know there are two roads to choose from in October. I do not believe that God commanded that we should not watch spooky, scary, Halloween movies. I also know that God did not put a spirit of fear inside of us.

2 Timothy 1:7 – For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

Don’t get me wrong here. There are some pretty spooky, scary, entertainment during this month of October, that I will absolutely stay clear of. I do not like going to Haunted Houses. Nope. Nohow. Noway. I do not like the blood and gore horror movies – like Friday the 13th and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Final Destination gives me the ultimate heebie jeebies.

This I know – God gave me a sound mind to discern between what gives me fear and what, I should, personally, stay away from. I will honor that. If a person feels they should stay away from Halloween, then they should honor that. Fear not. Fear God. Fearing God means showing him honor and reverence.

The Bible has over 500 verses about fear. My favorite is Isaiah 41:10:

Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

The month of October is not a time to be fearful. We don’t need to fear. We do not need to feel like this world is dark and scary place – even though, the way things are, it sometimes feels that way. We do not to be anxious. God has our backs. The God who created this world, the God who saved me, who loved me before I was even born. God, who supplies all my need and cares more about me than the lilies of the fields and the tiny baby sparrow. He knows when to set my adrenaline rushing. He is the one who protects me from the fiery darts and the arrows that fly by night. I am covered with the blood of Jesus Christ.

I still didn’t get a crafty video made tonight…. Im too tired to film and edit tonight. Our oven finally bit the dust tonight. I guess tomorrow is Lowes and Best Buy shopping to find a new one.

Fear Not and Fear God

As adults, we get to choose what we take into our minds via books and movies, etc.
But my heart breaks for the kids who’s parents think it’s funny to scare their children with horror movies.
And no, don’t let them decide whether or not to put scary things in their minds! They’re children! You’re the grown up.
When they grow up, they’ll have plenty of time to watch what they choose as adults.

Yes, I definitely believe that we need to guard our children’s minds. Zac is at a very impressionable age right now. He is starting to show emotion. He acts like he has no fear when he stands on the edge of the rocking recliner though. Scares me to death. But putting him in front of a horror movie. I cant imagine what nightmares he might have,
