Fasting for Easter

I don’t celebrate Lent – per se, however, one thing I have adopted from this season is the fasting for 40 days until Easter. This year, I have decided to fast from Door Dashing. I started on March 6th. I woke up that morning and went to Door Dash my breakfast and for some reason, payment did not go through. I heard a little small voice in my head that said… See? Now is a good time to stop DoorDashing. So I went into the kitchen and made me O’Brien potatoes and scrambled eggs.

I hate cooking. That is why Door Dashing is so much easier. It’s also way more expensive and apparently my card payment not going through shows it.

What is Lent? It is a 40 day period of fasting and prayer. Ash Wednesday, which was on March 5th, was the beginning of the Lent season. The fasting represents the 40 days of fasting that Jesus did when he was in the desert. People usually choose to refrain from something during this season. This symbolizes sacrifice and self-discipline. I think maybe observing Lent is a lot more meaningful than making New Years Resolutions.

What will giving up Door Dashing for 40 days do for me? Hopefully, it will break a dependence on having food whenever I want it and depending on Jesus more. Hopefully, I can save some money in the next month, learn to cook healthy food for myself, and plan my meals better so I am not unprepared.

It is now April 8th and the last time I Door Dashed was Wednesday, April 5th. No ChickFilA, McDonalds, Jersey Mikes or Arby’s. I have 37 more days to go… and Payday is in a few days…

Do you observe Lent? Let me know in the comments what things you fast from? Do you find it helpful? Why do you observe Lent?

Thanks for reading.

Happy Spring and Easter Season

Positively, Debbie

All to Jesus, I surrender. All to HIm, I freely give.
