Letting My Grandson Choose My Next Read – Part 2

Reaching back into the jar, grandson chose another slip of paper, three times in the month of July…

The first book was Babel by R.F. Kuang. – a very different type of author. She writes her novels like a research paper, complete with footnotes. Her writing is very detailed with lots of facts. It was a cross between should I DNF it or just keep going…and about 2/3 of the way through the book the plot picks up and I couldn’t stop reading. Turned out to be one of my favorite books this year.

Different but good.

The Child by Fiona Barton, is the second book I read in July. I thought the author would be like one of those cookie cutter authors where the prose is kind of dull and the plot is the same. Not so with Fiona Barton. I would rank her up there with Mary Higgins Clark and Riley Sager. The storyline was a lot more than I hoped for with a few twists thrown in to keep it interesting. This is another book that has sat on my TBR shelf for quite some time.

And finally he picked, as my third book for July….drum roll please… Dungeon Crawler Carl! Why did I wait to read this? I am in love with Carl, Princess Donut, Mongo, and Mordecai. such a fun and funny book to read…but it has its serious moments too. I have definitely gotten on the bandwagon as a fan of Dungeon Crawler Carl.

New favorite series

I only got three books read in August but they were lengthy books. Again, if you want me to write a review of any of these books, let me know in the comment section.

Until then, keep on reading…

Absolutely, Positively Debbie
