Wait! Stop. Reverse. (Type 2 Diabetes)

Wait! Recently, I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. I have been prediabetic for over 25 years, except for the years I was working out everyday for 5 days a week. I lost 115 pounds by doing restrictive everything diet – no gluten, no dairy, no sugar, no processed foods, no soy, etc. Then came 2020 and my eyes started giving me troubles and I had to have two surgeries on them. One to repair a detached retina and another to get cataracts removed from the same eye. The other eye is being “watched” to make sure detached retina and glaucoma doesn’t happen. Oh, the other eye also has cataracts. The gyms closed down because of government restrictions so I stayed home more. I started eating gluten, fast food and some dairy products again. The migraines started and I guess my body said… Wait! What! You were taking care of me and now we are going to mess with your insulin. Take that!

So.. now the doctor has me on medications for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and Metformin for the diabetes. I cant stand the Metformin. It makes me feel even worse.

But there is good news for Type 2 Diabetic sufferers. Type 2 Diabetes can be reversed. You just have to figure out how to get the glucose levels in your blood back down. The doctor also gave me a glucose monitor, the lancets and the test strips to monitor my glucose levels. My glucose levels in the morning should be 80 – 120. Right now, mine are 219 + (What!?)

Stop! I had to stop and ask myself. Why are my glucose levels so high in the morning and remain fairly high all day long. What am I doing now that I was or was not doing a few years ago? A few years ago I was moving consistently and eating healthy. Since, I feel so fatigued all the time (from the diabetes?) it is harder to feel like moving. My joints hurt more when I move. (diabetic symptom) and I always feel hungry. I always feel hungry- even when I worked out – thats nothing new. I just didn’t go get McDonalds then. So, I guess the solution is obvious. Do I want to live with Type 2 Diabetes or do I want to THRIVE?

Put it in Reverse! Now… its time to put it in reverse gear and bring these glucose levels down. Did you know that if Type 2 Diabetes got too bad you could go blind, kill your nerves, lose a limb or die? Im not ready for any of that. I want to see my grandsons and granddaughters grow up. That is my why. Why do I want to reverse Type 2 Diabetes? I want to live to see my grandkids grow up and become successful. That is a good Why. I have always had trouble picking a why for my goals – but – this time, it wasn’t so hard.

How am I going to start?

  1. I am going to pray and ask for Gods help. There is no way I can do this alone. I am going to need His grace and mercy.
  2. I am adding WALK on my daily list of things to get done – along with dishes, 1 load of laundry and swiffer.
  3. I am going to start eating clean and pry myself away from the foods that have a high glycemic load, (bread, most fast food, and some starchy veggies).

The result I am hoping for is that within a year, I will be able to fast walk a 5k again and I will bring my glucose levels down to normal.

Off to go for a walk with the grandbaby. Get the ingredients for Orange Salmon with avocado salsa for tonights dinner, along with jasmine rice and edamame.

Remaining Positive,

Positively, Debbie

UPDATE: Due to much gastrointestinal upset the doctor finally switched me from Metformin to Trulicity. I now have to give myself an injection once a week. Yikes!
