Horses, Chariots and Presidents…

There is a verse from the Bible that keeps going through my head over and over again. Ever since the Tuesday election and the world was turned upside down. People rioting in the streets, calling each other names, treating each other like dirt. The Republicans and Democrats who have gone before us are probably rolling in their graves – wondering what the heck The United States of America is doing. Thomas Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt, JFK,  and Ronald Regan would be shaking their heads at us in disgust and they would tell us to grow up citizens.

I don’t know what happened. I don’t think anyone was really expecting Trump to win. Even the media was surprised. I will admit it – at the risk of losing readers. I voted for Trump. I am not ashamed. I did it because I thought he was my best choice. I’m sorry if he said hurtful words. He will have to answer for it one day – when he meets up with God, in Heaven. (What happened to “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me” adage?)  I just don’t trust the political system anymore and Hillary is to much a part of a corrupt, government system. Will Trump keep the promises he made? Only time will tell.

Would I have gotten upset because Hillary won? NOT AT ALL! I think it would be kind of cool to have had the first woman President in office. There have been a lot of great women in leadership throughout history. My heroine is Joan of Arc. It was not the time for a woman to be President, yet. Changes need to happen to the government system. America needs to be made great again. We need the world to respect us and they don’t. They are stealing from us and robbing us blind. Plus, I truly believe that if God had wanted Hillary in office – SHE WOULD HAVE WON…she didn’t…Trump did. What’s done is done. God moved some mighty mountains to get Trump into office too. The race was very close.

Back to the verse though – that keeps going through my head.

Psalm 20:7 – Some trust in chariots, and some in horses, but we will trust in the name of the Lord our God.

That’s it.  This week, I saw how some put their trust in a person.. a President, a Senator, a government – BUT I will trust in the name of the Lord my God. It’s God that is going to get me through the hard times – not a President. It is God who is going to heal my relationships and bind up the hurts- not a President. It is God who is going to be with me when I am feeling depressed or lonely. The President isn’t going to call me and ask how I am doing or if I want to go get a Starbucks. Ultimately, it’s God, when you are sick, when you need money, when you need a friend, when you are holding on to the end of your rope, God will be there for you. You just need to trust. Not in your car, not in your cellphone, not in Facebook, definitely not a President or someone in government – just God.

Now of course, if you don’t believe in God… then it’s going to be kinda hard to put your trust in Him. Maybe – it’s time to try?

What do you trust in?
