Farewell, Dorothy Parker (A Dollar Tree Book Review)

I had to share with you another book from the Dollar Tree that I have just finished reading. Who knew that you could actually find decent books to read that only cost $1.00!!! This book blew me away.

TITLE: Farewell Dorothy Parker

AUTHOR: Ellen Meister

ABOUT: The main character is Violet Epps. She works as a movie critic but she has a hard time in being assertive when it comes to her personal life. In her personal life, she has no courage and often feels like a doormat – being walked all over.  She has a difficult time saying “NO.” Violet likes to visit the old time Algonquin Hotel – where a famous person of the past used to frequent.

Dorothy Parker was a writer and critic in the 1920’s. (There actually was a real – life Dorothy Parker). Dorothy’s ghost can only materialize when the hotel’s guestbook is open. Violet gets a visitation from Dorothy’s ghost while she is at the motel and becomes so flustered she accidentally winds up taking the guest book home with her. That is when the fun begins. Dorothy is the total opposite to Violet – loud, crude, very assertive, gets her way and is definitely not a door mat. She is everything Violet would like to be.

Violet accepts Dorothy’s offer of help to become more like her. The scenes that unfold leave you either laughing, cheering for Violet, or sometimes feeling scared for her. It’s an awesome book and one that I truly enjoyed reading. Honestly, if I read a book that doesn’t grab my attention in the first couple of sentences, I read the back of the book and toss the book aside. This book did not do that. I read it all the way through and loved every bit of it. For a $1.00 book – it was well worth the price.

I’m giving away this book in a Rafflecopter drawing. The drawing starts on December 11, 2016 at midnight and it ends at midnight on 12/14/2016.  To join the drawing click on the Rafflecopter link below: (There will be a few extra goodies from the Dollar Tree thrown in too…but it’s a surprise.)

What a great idea! This is the perfect way to pass along the books we read. Your review made me want to enter into Violet & Dorothy’s worlds. I’m almost ready to run to the Dollar Tree to get a copy. But, instead, I entered your contest. Thanks!
