Today, I was at the top of the world. Well, it seemed like the top of the world. I was on the summit of Pikes Peak. Over 14,000 feet in elevation. Can you believe after all these years that I have lived in Colorado Springs, this was my first time all the way to the top of this mountain? I can truly understand why Katherine Lee Bates wrote America the Beautiful from the top of Pikes Peak. I need to go back on a day when it is not raining.
The rain clouds are beautiful! It was cold on the mountain – 52 degrees – but it felt so good.
The memorial to Katherine Lee Bates. “O beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain, for purple mountain majesties, above the fruited plains… The Rocky Mountains are very majestic.
Can you imagine hiking up Pikes Peak before there were any modern roads?
Got a picture of JD with a taxidermied black bear – actually, I think it was a stuffed bear, cuz do bears really have that big of a smile?
I had an awesome time. A Big Thank You to my cousin who had come into town for business and was able to drive me and JD up there. My husband told me – drop whatever you are doing and go spend time with family!!! And you know what? He was right. Sometimes, you just need to drop the busyness of everyday life and work and take time out to do something fun and with family. I’m happy I went.
Someday, I am going to hike to the top of this mountain!!!! It’s on my bucket list…
What’s on your bucket list!
Happy days everyone
Truly
Positively, Debbie
